The old order is breaking

Its happening all over the world. China and India are rising, the EU and the US are aging. However I shall once again confine myself to the software world.

Bing’s market share is rising and it is eating into Google’s share. While the Google search technology is definitely quite good Microsoft made headlines thanks to its deal with Yahoo. Unfortunately for Google news about Caffeine has not been worth the front page. For those who are not aware about caffeine, it is a new search technology by google and is still under construction. Check the link to use this new google: http://www2.sandbox.google.com/

Who gets a bigger share of internet search is something only time will tell but it is quite certain that the boundaries are blurring. Google entered the OS market with its announcement about the Chrome OS and now Microsoft has made the front page with Bing. I am not sure who said it but I am sure many people must have heard “All that goes up must come down”. It fits Microsoft perfectly. The software giant certainly seems intent on suicide. With computers becoming smaller and smaller and especially with the rise in number of netbooks the demand for a light weight OS is rising. Windows XP fitted this demand perfectly but there is a strong likelihood that the Chrome OS will knock XP off the net books. Microsoft apparently is not interested in net books. Vista the big failure was not made for net books and nor apparently is Windows 7. One wonders whether the guys in Redmond are confused between the past and the future. However making products which seem to be obsolete is not the only mistake made by the software giant. It is locked in numerous legal battles and seems to be losing all of them. Microsoft has been banned from selling Word 2003 and 2007. For more information on this legal battle check http://wp.me/pwIZ1-A

This is the second legal battle which Microsoft has been caught in. The first involved an antitrust lawsuit by the European union which resulted in Microsoft being slapped with a fine of $613 million. http://wp.me/pwIZ1-A

This really makes me wonder. Is Microsoft a multinational company or an assorted bunch of talented coders who have no idea about what is legal and what is not. Has this company heard the words company secretary, legal adviser etc?
